Cooking with OilsCooking with Oils All cooking oil manufactures have claims that their cooking oil is the best to use. Vegetable, peanut oil, canola oil, sunflower, olive, coconut, and even butter all have their place in any kitchen because they will all add a different flavor to any dish. One thing that must also be considered is how healthy is using the different type of oil. The most important thing is the fat type of each oil. What are the bad fats? Saturated and trans fat are considered bad fats and should be avoided. Saturated fats will raise your total blood cholesterol level as well as LDL cholesterol. This is considered a bad cholesterol. Trans fats will also raise LDL cholesterol and tend to lower HDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is considered the good cholesterol. What are the good fats? Poly unsaturated fats and mono unsaturated fats are considered good fats. Mono unsaturated fats will lower your total cholesterol level as well as your LDL cholesterol level, which is the bad cholesterol. It also will raise your HDL cholesterol level, which is believed to be the good cholesterol. Another good fat is poly unsaturated fat, which also will lower the total cholesterol level, and also the LDL cholesterol. Therefore, based on the above information, when choosing a cooking oil you should choose one high in Polyunsaturated fats and Mono unsaturated fats. They tend to lower your overall cholesterol level while reducing the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol. You should avoid oil with saturated and trans fat. It best when buying cooking oils that you check out the nutritional information on the product label. They should provide the levels of saturated, trans, poly unsaturated and mono unsaturated fats. With information you will be able to find out which cooking oil is for you. C Dietzig is co owner of http://www.cookingclass.first-results.com
